Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, USA., the organization’s membership exceeds 300,000 in more than 15,800 clubs in 149 countries. Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders.
How does Toastmasters work?
Members who join the club attend regular meetings, twice a month. Members sign up for and play various speaking and leadership roles during the meetings, starting with simpler roles, then growing, at their own pace, to more advanced roles, such as selecting a meeting theme and conducting the entire meeting. Other skills practised at Toastmasters include listening skills, giving and receiving feedback, conflict management, and much more.
