Dr. Khalil Amiri

Biography

Dr. Khalil Amiri is co-founder and Provost of MUST University. He was formerly CEO of KPI Associates, a research and consulting firm, specializing in strategy, digital transformation, and higher education quality assurance. Prior to founding KPI Associates, Dr Amiri served as Deputy Minister of Scientific Research in the Government of Tunisia from 2016 through to 2019 where he led several reform initiatives especially in the areas of research funding, research evaluation, and industry-university collaboration. Before joining Government, he served as Professor and Dean of the Mediterranean Institute of Technology, and lecturer at Imperial College London. Prior to that, he held various positions within the R&D laboratories of Hewlett-Packard, IBM New York, IBM Toronto, and Credit Suisse, London.

His areas of specialisation revolve around databases and data storage systems, web caching and content distribution, cluster and cloud computing technologies. Additionally, he has several publications to his name in the public policy area especially relating to public governance and higher education quality assurance. Dr Amiri has published over forty papers and book chapters, has over 2500 academic citations, and served on the program committees of several conferences. He holds several patents and serves on several scientific and advisory boards and is a regular consultant to national and international organisations.

He is the co-founder of the Arab Governance Institute (AGI), a member of the Global South Think Tank Coalition, and served as a regional rapporteur for the Congress of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), held in Rio de Janeiro on June 2015.

Dr Amiri holds a PhD in Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA (2000).
