Biography

I received a B.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering from National School of Engineers of Tunis, Tunisia in 1985. I worked for two years with the National Institute for Standards and Intellectual Property in the fields of standardization and certification of electric products in Tunisia. I received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan in 1990 and 1993 respectively. I joined the R&D Department at Inazawa Works of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in Japan from Apr. 1993 to Jul. 1995. I joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman, in Aug. 1995. I served as a Head of the Department from Sept. 2001 to Aug. 2003 and from Sept. 2007 to Aug. 2009. I have established, in 2003, the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Research Group (RASERG) at Sultan Qaboos University and was its Chair till Jan. 2013. I also established the University Quality Assurance Office in Feb. 2010 and served as its Director from Feb. 2010 to Jan. 2013. In Feb. 2013, I joined the Electrical Engineering Department at Qatar University as a Professor and Kahramaa-Siemens Chair in energy efficiency. From August 2013 till August 2015, I was appointed the College of Engineering Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. In April 2014, I established the Qatar University Clean Energy & Energy Efficiency Research Group (CE3RG) that I am currently chairing. Starting from January 2022, I was appointed as a Senior Assessment and Evaluation Specialist, in the Academic Planning and Quality Assurance Office at Qatar University. My current research interests include Power Electronics & Drives, Electric Vehicles, Smart Grid, Energy Efficiency, and Renewable Energy. In 2019, 2020, and 2021, I have been ranked among the top scientists worldwide selected by Stanford University representing the top 2 percent of the most-cited scientists with a single-year impact in my discipline. I am currently a Senior IEEE member and an ABET Program Evaluator.
